Although all golf umbrellas basically look the same, it is important to know what makes them different from one another. Umbrellas basically have three parts, the canopy, the shaft and the handle.
Below is a description of each of the component umbrella parts:
Canopy:
Nylon fabric is used for most umbrellas. However, the ribs which give the umbrella its shape when open can be made of metal or fiberglass. An umbrella with metal ribs is less expensive than fiberglass. Also, if the canopy of a metal shaft umbrella turns inside out, it is destroyed. Another disadvantage to metal rib umbrellas is that it can conduct electricity. Fiberglass is normally windproof and lighting proof. If a fiberglass rib umbrellas turns inside out, snap it back into place and it is totally reusable, it is not destroyed.
Shaft:
The shaft of the umbrella can be made of metal, wood or fiberglass. Once again metal shaft umbrellas are less expensive, however, they conduct electricity where wood and fiberglass are lighting proof.
Handle:
The handle of all umbrellas is made of non conductive material such as wood, fiberglass, plastic rubber or foam.
The best corporate gift umbrella has fiberglass ribs, either a wood or fiberglass shaft and a wood or fiberglass handle.
